CAVALRY CARBINE. Cal. 7.65 Argentine. S# A4459. S#s match on receiver, bolt, trigger guard & stock. Bbl. 22 3/8" including extension for bayonet muzzle ring. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1400 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. Most of Argentina's Model 1909 cavalry carbines were modified in 1926 to accept a bayonet making the arm suitable for use by engineers artillery ect. The conversion was accomplished by welding an extension to the sight protector & attaching a bayonet lug to the bbl. The bbl. band was changed to a side swivel type. A swivel bar was added to the left side of the buttstock & the mortise for the saddle ring bar was filled w/ a wooden plug. The receiver retains the standard DWM markings on the left rail. The receiver ring has the argentine crest on top & is marked on the left side "MAUSER MODELLO ARGENTINO 1909". Turned down bolt handle. Lever type floorplate release. Thumbplate has been removed. Walnut stock & handguard. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 15 3/4" fullered blade bayonet marked on left ricasso "WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & CO. SOLINGEN". Marked on right ricasso w/ "Argentine Crest; MODELLO ARGENTINO 1909". Curved quillon, smooth walnut grips, birds head pommel, blued steel scabbard w/ unmarked brown leather frog. Bright finished bayonet has sm. areas of oxidation; grips have light wear & handling marks. Scabbard retains most of it's original blue finish w/ several sm. dents & scratches. Frog is in good serviceable condition w. tight stitching. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish w/ a slight loss of wood in inletted areas w/ light wear & scattered handling marks. Metal has lg. degree of arsenal rework blue finish including receiver. Assembly is bright. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. (23-365/RW). CURIO. $400-550.
