Oil on board by Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel (1839-1029) French. Realism. Well known for his French Historical Art pieces. His paintings are in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen and in 1907 he designed a stained glass window for the local Church of Notre Dame. Signed " A Lesrel 1872" along the facing edge of the top step. Condition: very good with label on verso reading from the collection of Edgar Mills, brother of J. Ogden Mills, for which he paid $750. Dimensions: image approx. 7 X 10 inches, framed 17 X 20 inches. Plaster frame has some chips and minor repairs.

BIDDING
Bidding advances shall be regulated by the auctioneer and shall be at his discretion. He or she has the right to refuse any bids. Some of the items offered at auction are subject to a reserve. A reserve is a minimum price agreed upon by the consignor of the property and the auction house. The auctioneer may bid on behalf of the consignor in order to reach the minimum sale amount. If the minimum amount is not reached, the auctioneer may pass the item. The auctioneer reserves the right to bid on behalf of clients and vendors, but shall not be liable for errors or omissions in executing instructions to bid. All bidders are required to complete the registration and obtain a bidder number. All registration cards contain the full name, address, phone number, and e-mail address.
