A marvelous Vera Cruz figure from Mexico, c. AD 300 - 900, this superb Remojadas example depicts a priestess ceremonial dancer with arms held high and upward facing palms. She is elaborately adorned with a fancy, helmet-like headdress decorated with the knotted bow emblem, which also is evident on two of the bracelets and complex, belted loincloth. Chapopote daubed rattles encircle the legs. H: 15 in. Strong mineral deposits and root marks, typical small losses and minor repairs. Great presence. Ex Kusner collection. Cf. Leyenaar Von Kuste Zu Kuste, page 112.
