(Disney, 1953) An original concept painting by Color Stylist Mary Blair for "Peter Pan." Although she had worked for the Studio since the 1940s, it was the 1950s that brough Mary Blair to the forefront of the Studio Animation Department. Walt Disney chose Blair as the color stylist for Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and several theatrical shorts. It was her conceptual work and styling that set the tone for the first three features for the studio in the 1950s. Her early concepts are considered by many collectors to be some of the most desirable and important artwork to come out of the Studio. This concept for Peter Pan is accomplished in gouache on art board, and features Peter Pan with the mermaids. This large pan piece has a painted image size of 18.5”x7.5” on 20”x9” artists' board. It is in very good condition, with minor fading, discoloration to unpainted edges, and some surface wear.
