3 POWDER HORNS.

1) EARLY POWDER HORN WITH LATER ENGRAVING. An example of a late 18th or early 19th century powder horn measuring 11 3/4" in length. The base plug has a wood screw imbedded in the face. This horn is engraved w/ the words, “THOMAS CHARLESWORTH HIS HORN 1783”, along w/ a flower, a pierced heart w/ the initials “MB” & vine like motifs. All of the engraving was likely added in the 20th century. Because this horn was engraved later, we must consider this a reproduction. CONDITION: the horn shows light wear overall w/ heavier wear on the butt. (02-15482/BF).
2) REPRODUCTION POWDER HORN. An example of a 20th century powder horn utilizing an early 19th century motif. Horn measures approx. 10 3/4" in length. The base plug has the carved initials, “DC” & “PH”. This horn has engravings of a 2 masted sailing ship, a deer, a hunter w/ gun, a campfire & the words, “TUNBRIDGE 28 1801 STEAL NOT THIS HORN MY ONE ST FRIEND FOR FEAR THE GALLA 88 PROVE YOUR END”. Horn has a leather suspension strap & measuring horn attached. CONDITION: the horn shows light wear overall. (02-15483/BF).
3) EARLY POWDER HORN WITH LATER ENGRAVING. A nice example of a late 18th or early 19th century powder horn measuring 13 1/4" in length. The base plug has a screw in finial in the center for ease of filling. This horn has engravings of the British arms, a New York town scene, a partial map, fish, the name “R. NATHAN” & the date “1797”. All of the engraving was likely added in the 20th century. Because this horn was engraved later, we must consider this a reproduction. CONDITION: the horn shows light to moderate wear overall w/ a crack near the spout & a few sm. cracks at the base. The screw in finial at the base plug operates well & fits tightly. (02-15485/BF). $550-1,000.
