1) COURT SWORD. Overall length: 40”. Blade length: 32”. This is a cut steel hilted court sword, typical of court wear in Europe during the 19th century. The triangular blade is lightly etched over the first 10” with foliate & patriotic motifs. The entire cut steel hilt is decorated with faceted steel “gems”. The downturned guard is pierced with scores of riveted steel “gems”. The grip, pommel & quillon have similar decorations, and the chained guard has faceted steel beads that emulate the decoration seen on the rest of the hilt. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish. Hilt has an overall gray patina and is undamaged with no notable oxidation spots. Scabbard has a cleaned, gray, mottled patina with significant pitting and several rust-through spots. 2) U.S. M1860. Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 29 3/4". A late 19th century version of the M1860 staff & field officer’s sword. Blade is etched over 18” with various military, patriotic & foliate motifs. The ricasso is etched “THE M. C. LILLEY & CO Columbus, O.”. Gilded brass hilt with eagle & spray of arms on the guard. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Gilded brass mounted plated scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Hilt retains about 60% of its original gilded finish. Grip is undamaged. Scabbard shows light overall wear. (02-21311-3/BF). $400-600.
