2 LATE 19th CENTURY FLAGS.

1) A Confederate Saint Andrews cross style flag of the UCV period with provenance to the original owner named Gunter from Montgomery, Alabama. The printed cotton flag measures approximately 47” x 29”. It depicts a blue & white X shaped cross containing 13 stars all on a red field. The flag appears to be hand sewn around all of the edges. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: paperwork related to the purchase of the flag several years ago on ebay. Also included is a brief provenance on ownership of the flag written out by a family member. CONDITION: flag remains exceptionally strong with some minor wear at the edges and minor fading to the colors. There are scattered stains throughout the flag that do not detract from the visual appeal of this UCV flag.
2) A small early Methodist flag measuring approximately 18” x 12”. Flag has a white field with a blue canton that has a red Christian cross in the center. The flag has an early machine sewn border and a raw front edge. There is a braided cotton tie at each end of the hoist. There appears to have been something sewn at the center of the cross that is now missing. Flag is housed in a 19” x 22 1/2" frame and the flag has not been examined out of the frame. CONDITION: flag appears in solid condition with minor separations and wear to the edges. There is a bit of fading & discoloration to the flag. (02-17464/BF). $600-1,000.
