19th century percussion alarm gun, approx. 6-1/2” body, constructed of forged steel with large hammer and exposed mainspring. The mechanism is constructed in such a manner that a rope or string would pull the sear and allow the hammer to fall, striking a musket sized nipple that would fire a blackpowder charge as a warning. The mechanism is well constructed, probably by an American gunsmith, and shows pitting and erosion, with two old collector’s tags that appear to be from Martin Retting. From the Robert Petersen Collection. Est: $350 - $700
