19th century combination knife/tool marked “James Howarth / Cast Steel / Sheffield” with maker’s hallmarks. The piece measures 14” overall, steel portion approx. 8”. The grip is of simple turned wood with brass ferrule.The blade condition is good with some pitting and erosion. A very interesting tool that could be used for dressing large animals like buffalo or possibly for whaling purposes. The only such example we have seen in 40years of cataloging.
