19th century Museum quality copy of magnificent Russian helmet showing “Elkington” mark and Department of Science and art logo probably authorized by Victorian and Albert museum or other publicinstitution. These high quality art pieces were offered to collectors’ in the 19th century for their study and enjoyment as fine armor was becoming rare even over 100 years ago. This is a genuine antique made byElkingtons’ patented process and is both ornate and beautiful. The helmet measures approx 17-3/8” in height by 19” width and shows ornate scenes top by Russian eagle. The center portions of each side show ancient warrior slaying demonic serpent. The border decoration shows stand of arms, lions, grotesque mask, Christian cross, scrolls, florals and other decorative motifs. The condition is near fine with a nice patina and no cleaning or polishing to the detail.
