19th century French style Epe or court sword with heavy cast-metal hilt, gold gilting, blue and gilt blade with silver ribs between cast-metal grip, showing lion’s head and Greek helmeted goddess motifs. The guardshows a stylized Mexican snake and eagle and center with two silver inlays into the guard, and silver accents. The sword measures 38-3/4” overall with 32-1/2” triangular blade. The blade shows 60-70% thinningoriginal blue and gilt finish. No scabbard. A very ornate French court sword, probably French made for Mexico, of a unique style we have never before encountered, and of approx. the Maximillian era. Est: $750 - $1,500
