19th century American Indian catlinite (pipe stone) pipe with period carved stem showing elk, turtle, and buffalo effigee. The pipe measures 8-1/2” from tip to end, the bowl measures approx. 4-3/4” in height. The stemmeasures 17-5/8”. The stem is dyed with colors on the effigee and the condition is very good overall to near fine. The rear portion of the pipe is decorated with ribbon and wrapped with trade cloth. This exact pipe is pictured on illustration #107 of Red Pipes by noted expert John Baldwin and was originally in the author’s collection at time of publication. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
