19th Century Sioux Complete Arrow
The lot features a complete arrow from the Sioux Native American Indians of the Northern Plains dating to the 19th Century from the Theron Ludlow Boulder, Montana collection. The arrow was part of a bow, bow case, quiver, and two arrow set with rams horn which was purchased many years ago by Theron Ludlow of Boulder, Montana from the Cody Show, which sold for $6,500. The piece shows a stripped and carved wood arrow shaft with expert knapped long arrowhead showing a white opaque stone being sinew sewn onto the shaft. The back of the arrow shows a fine carved notch with original feather fletching being all being sinew sewn. The end of the shaft is also marked with three bands of blue mineral pigment coloring. The piece shows wonderful original patina and is a fine Indian Wars era original piece. Provenance: From the Theron Ludlow Boulder, Montana collection and sold at the Cody Show in a set for $6,500. Accompanied by a note stating as such. Measures 22.25 inches in total length. The arrow head itself is approx. 2 inches long.
