The lot features three original forged iron strike-a-lites, otherwise known as strikers, from the Northern Plains Native American Indians and the Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The earliest is the crudely forged iron example likely from the early to mid 1800's. Next is the finer example showing a blacksmith forged curled end likely the mid to late 1800's and lastly is the blacksmith forged example from the late 1800's. These were typically put into strike-a-lite beaded bags from the Plains Indians and would be hit against flint to make fire. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Largest is 3.25" by 1 5/8" and the smallest is 3" by 1".
