19th C. Comanche Tacked Large Fighting Knife
This is an authentic, original 19th Century large fighting knife from the Comanche Indians of Texas. The piece shows a large, bowie like long blade of forged iron with a large belly and slight false blade on the back of the spine. The blade has a nice stamp which is illegible. The piece shows a carved horn handle with copper wire (telegraph) wrap at the hilt. The grip has a slight bird head pommel end and is covered on the back / top with solid brass square shank early trade tacks. The back of the knife shows several iron tacks holding the grip into place. Provenance: Found to be an authentic original 19th Century Comanche knife by expert Jacques Blazy and sold by Binoche & Giquello in their April 2010, Native American sale as such, from a private Paris, France, Native American antiques collection. Measures overall 13”L with the blade being approximately 9 1/8”L by 2”W.*
