19th C. Blackfeet Beaded Sheath & Trade Knife
This is a fantastic Indian hide and harness leather beaded sheath and old trade knife from the 19th Century from the Blackfeet / Blackfoot Indians. The sheath is comprised of old brown harness saddle leather and is adorned with brass trade tacks and a large section of beautiful beadwork on Indian tanned hide. The large men’s example is paired with an old trade skinning knife that appears to have been cleaned at some point and has a red coloring remnant on the handle. The beadwork shows a classic hourglass Northern Plains pattern in old trade seed beads with colors of greasy blue, greasy yellow, chalk white, greasy green, medium green, black, blue and semi-transparent rose lilac. Provenance: From a private beadwork and weapons collection in Cincinnati, Ohio. The sheath measures 16 inches in length by 6 inches wide. The knife is 15 inches long.
