Colt 1851 Navy Revolver period script inscribed on back strap “P.M.S.S. Co, St., China” indicating this revolver is from the Pacific Mail and Steamship, China. Pictured on page 157 of “Across the Ocean with PaddleSteamship, China” by Hillary Don. The steamship China hauled passengers and fright from San Francisco to China and back from 1867-1879. S/N 199810. In good condition with traces of original blue in mutual patina and 10%-30% cylinder scene and matching numbers. Front sight period changed to large handmade brass and post. The grips are fair to good with some wear and losses to the toe also 5 or more crosses cut in the left rear grip(Dead Man?, Battles?, or Seagulls?). The action is good and good overall. Steamship and express marked Colt Arms from early San Francisco are rare and desirable with this cataloger viewing about a dozen authenticspecimens in 50+ years of selling fine arms. Included is the book where pictured and two interesting pamphlets on gold, silk, pioneers and mail. Extremely historic. (Antique) Est.: $5000-$10,000
