Hotchkiss 2 pound mountain gun marked “Hotchkiss Patent #33 Paris” on the carriage with cleaning brush marked “Rock Island Armory” and original descriptive catalog of ordnance manufacture by “The Hotchkiss Company, London, Paris, Washington”. The Hotchkiss Company was founded in Paris in 1875 and made ordnance and canon for the world. The U.S. used this type gun in the Battle of Wounded Knee and later in Cuba and points south. The tube measures 45” and weighs 220 lbs total including the wheel. The gun disassembles easily without tools and was made to be packed on 3 mules and 1 mule could carry ammunition boxes. Generally considered by collectors as one of the most desired collectible pieces of ordnance. Due to the small size making it a perfect gun room display piece and the history of use at Wounded Knee. The iron barrel shows an enameled military finish of gray to green color and the carriage shows an arsenal gray matching to the wheels. The condition is very good to almost fine. Our 90 year old consignor has owned this arm since the 1950’s when it was set in his living room until we removed it! (Antique) Est.: $25,000-$50,000
