1994 George Foreman IBF Championship Belt (Pristine Provenance)
Heavyweight boxer and later successful entrepreneur George Forman won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games before turning pro in 1969. Since then, he was been involved in some of the most memorable boxing matches of all time, including the epic 1974 bout in Zaire called the "Rumble in the Jungle." Foreman dropped from the public eye for years and devoted himself to his religious ministry, but in the 1990s he returned to the ring transformed into a rotund, jovial fighter who beat Michael Moorer in 1994 to regain the heavyweight crown at age 45. Entering the tenth round, Foreman was trailing on all scorecards. Then, suddenly, a right hand caught Moorer on the tip of his chin, and he collapsed to the canvas. Just like that, Foreman had become champion again. He became, at the age of 45, the oldest fighter ever to win the world Heavyweight crown, and, 20 years after losing his world title for the first time, he broke the record for the fighter with the most time in between one world championship run and the next. The IBF Championship belt was awarded to Foreman for his 1994 victory over Michael Moorer. This red and white leather belt has a 9-1/2" gold and red/white jewel encrusted globe in the center with two boxing gloves on the lower portion and an eagle on the upper. In the center are three interlocking enameled circles that read "World Champion," "International Boxing Federation" and IBF, Robert W. Lee, respectively. On the left and right side are two engraved gold medallions with eagles reading "George Foreman Defeated Michael Moorer Via 10 Rd. K.O. Nov. 5, 1994" and "For The Heavyweight Championship Of The World, I.B.F. Las Vegas, NV. U.S.A.," respectively. Interior is padded, with velcro enclosure. Obviously engraved after the fight, our consignor obtained this belt directly from the IBF, leading us to believe that Foreman possibly hadn't initially picked the belt up after engraving; Foreman held the title for less than a year, as on June 28, 1995 he was stripped of the title by the IBF for his refusing to grant a rematch to Axel Schulz, whom he defeated in his only successful defense on April 22, 1995. Belt is in EXMT-NRMT condition with minor cracking on the leather. The winning bidder will receive the original FedEx delivery slip from the IBF to our consignor.
