This Camaro Z-28 was one of 19,014 and it is one of 6067 of this model that were imported to Canada. This car is an original Canadian car, sold new at Murdoch Chev Olds in Dauphin, Manitoba.
It was purchased from a Camaro bone yard in Edmonton in January 1997 and immediately entered an extensive restoration project, with no bolt being left unturned. Approximately 2000 hours were required over the next several years to bring the car to its like new condition.
The list which follows indicates the work that was done on the car to complete this restoration.
The engine and power train were completely rebuilt. The block is the correct DZ302 cubic inch block for the car, which has been balanced and blueprinted. This engine has 4675 miles since the rebuild.
Rebuilt carburetor with new lines, fittings and fuel pump.
Stock GM correct aluminum intake installed
Finned GM valve covers; cowl induction system
Underhood is detailed for show status with decals applied
Original radiator was rebuilt and a new water pump installed
Factory cowl induction system that feeds into a stock detailed air cleaner
New exhaust at the rebuild
New gas tank
Brake work and suspension work done as required
Complete ground-up frame-off restoration with the body completely stripped, sand blasted underside and firewall. All rust was removed and replaced with metal. All the body work was done by the previous owner, a partner in a body shop.
The bumpers were rechromed, new chrome wheel moldings, rocker moldings, emblems, trim, door handles and interior sill plates.
New weather stripping on doors and trunk lid area.
New window felts and rubbers.
Interior of the car was completely refurbished, including a new steering wheel.
We bought this car in August 2002 and have enjoyed taking it to shows and for an occasional drive in the summer. We have done regular maintenance on the car and in 2006 we rebuilt the transmission using GM parts.
