Every picture tells a story, and this card has one for sure. This great action card is from an October 3, 1957, contest between Montreal and Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. In this game goalie Len Broderick, pictured along with HOFer's Doug Harvey and Jean Beliveau, among others, made his one and only start in the NHL. Broderick was a junior player player with the Toronto Marlboros. During the 1957-58 season he was the back-up goalie on occasion at the Gardens (teams carried only one goaltender in those days). These back ups were on hand at rinks and would suit up in rare emergencies for whichever team needed them that evening. Montreal goalie Jacques Plante was unable to play this night so Broderick filled in and won as the Habs beat the hometown Leafs, 6-2 (Toronto scored a pair of PP goals in the 3rd). It also happened to be the night the Parkhurst photographer was on hand, and in his one and only NHL game, Broderick was immortalized. Graded a nice 4 VG-EX by SGC!
