For your consideration is this Rare 1922 First Edition of "Down The Yellowstone", by Lewis R. Freeman, Dodd, Mead and Company publishers, New York. Fifty-four (54) illustrations including photographs from L.A. Huffman and others. Lewis Ransome Freeman (1878 1960) was an American explorer, journalist and war correspondent who wrote over twenty books chronicling his many travels, as well as numerous articles. This tale of floating the Yellowstone River from Yellowstone National Park to Glendive, Montana and the confluence with the Missouri River, is full of stories of Freeman's travels. From experiencing Yellowstone National Park in winter, to meeting "Yankee Jim" and traversing the canyon named for him in the Paradise valley of Montana, to meeting Calamity Jane in her Livingston Montana home, to meeting and appreciating the many settlers who lived along the river regions, Freeman's book paints a vivid picture of a lifestyle long gone from modern day Montana. This blue cloth bound gold gilt hardcover book is in good overall condition, the intact pages - front endpaper is missing - are deckled, exhibiting age tanning. No other obvious marring noted.
