Featured in this lot we have a Whiting & Davis Co. mesh flapper purse originating from the 1920's. Whiting & Davis Co. story began in 1876 when three men - William H. Wade, Edward P. Davis and Louis Heckman - shook hands and founded a silversmith company known at the time as Wade, Davis & Co. They opened doors in August of that year and debuted with a collection of sterling silver jewelry and popular designs of the Late Victorian era, including stickpins, bracelets, earrings and bar pins. Throughout the decades, Whiting & Davis grew a name for the brand as leaders in innovation, developing and reinventing technology for the finest mesh, handbag and jewelry designs. Throughout the 1920s the company was extremely popular for their mesh purses such as this one. This purse shows a silver mesh exterior with tassels hanging from the bottom. The mesh shows color patterns of pink, blue, green, orange, and white. It features a golden clasp and carry chain. The interior shows a pink inner lining with a main storage area and a smaller pocket. The inside of the clasp is marked "Mesh Whiting & Davis Co Bags Reg. U.S.". IT shows good condition overall with some wear on the inner lining. The bag measures 8 1/4" tall by 4 1/2" at the widest.
