This is an exceptionally rare original circa 1913 Indian Hedstrom Hendee Twin motorcycle engine. The engine has a serial number (is marked) “86E584” and was manufactured in 1913. The engine is a 1913 Model E 2cycle, 7HP (7 horse power), 3 ¼ bore, 3 43/64 stroke, loop frame, twin. The v-twin engine is marked, “Hedstrom Motor The Hendee MFG. CO Springfield, MASS – 86E584”. George Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom, both were active in the bicycle racing world, together built their first prototype Indian “motorcycle” in 1901. This was the v-twin “F-Head” Indian Engine. Complete 1913 Indian motorcycles with this engine are considered priceless and sell for $100,000-$40,000. The engine appears to be in good condition (review pictures). In its prime this 1913 Indian Hendee 7HP Big Twin would see high speeds of over 100mph. Excellent extremely rare priceless piece. This is from the Donald Startore estate, a master early Indian Motorcycle collector and restorer.
