One of early baseball's biggest names, and for a time the biggest, Christy Mathewson is up there with Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, and other legends. He won 373 games while only losing 188 times over his 17-year big league career. His 2.13 career ERA ranks 8th all-time, while his 373 career wins ranks tied for 3rd, behind only Young and Johnson. He won 30-or-more games four times (including a high of 37 in 1908, a season in which led the AL in wins, ERA, shutouts and strikeouts), and won 20-or-more games 13 times, including a run of 12 seasons in a row. His legend was cemented in the 1905 World Series when he started three games, winning all of them by complete game shutout, allowing only 13 hits over those 27 innings, striking 18 and walking only 1 batter as the New York Giants won baseball's championship. This card is from the famed T206 set, which was issued over three years (1909-11), with multiple tobacco brands, and in many cases, multiple poses. This is Mathewson's "dark cap" variation, with a Piedmont 350 back, graded a solid 2.5 GD+ by SGC with an eye appeal "A" rating from PWCC (top 30%). A premier addition to any sports card collection.

The auctioneer reserves the right not to accept any bid which is only a partial advance over the preceding bid.
The auctioneer may break down or consolidate any lot or lots at his sole discretion.
Galaxy Auctions Canada assumes no responsibility for any liability once a bid is accepted.
Products are sold "as is, where is" and there shall be no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied, statutory or otherwise of any nature.
Catalogue is prepared only as a guide. No sale shall be invalidated by any reason or defect or inaccuracy of description in catalogue or otherwise, and no liability shall be borne by the auctioneers by virtue of any such fault or error.

The winning bidder is not entitled to possession until all items have been paid for in full.
In the event that the purchase prices are not paid within 72 hours (unless email arrangements are made), the auctioneer shall have the right to resell such items in whatever manner he sees fit without notice to the purchaser.
All costs and responsibilities of removal shall be borne by the winner bidder within the time prescribed by the auctioneer.
The winning bidder hereby indemnifies the auctioneer and the vendor against any and all damages arising from the dismantling and removal of any lots.
Any lots not removed within the prescribed time shall be deemed as abandoned. The auctioneer shall have the right to resell or dispose of such items in whatever manner he sees fit without notice to the purchaser.
If for any reason, Galaxy Auctions Canada is unable to deliver any or all of an awarded lot or title thereof, the sole liability of Galaxy Auctions Canada shall be the refund of any monies paid on the lot.
It is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder to pay for their items within the prescribed time.
Galaxy Auctions Canada is not responsible for shipping carrier's lost or damaged items.
Shipping is calculated and included in the initial invoice sent immediately after the auction closes. Credit cards on file will be charged within 24 hours (next day) after the auction closes, unless alternative payment is confirmed prior by email.
