used in Irish Rebellion and marked I I T D 2239 on backstrap. the backstrap markings indicate Kiel Navy Yard II Division and this Luger along with 28 others were purchased by William B. Edwards from the Irish Dept. of Defense and is listed by serial # on copy of invoice dated 14.1.91. A copy of letter signed by Edwards on Gold Rush Gun Shop stationary details the purchase of this Luger and the 28 others which were rowed ashore from German Submarine U-19 and intendedf for use in 1916 Easter Rebellion. Mr. Edwards knew of the Lugers since 1948 when told they came off a submarine by a Irish Commandant at Clancy Barracks. He further details the sale and import to the United States. The Luger remains in very good plus condition with 80-90% original blue, thinning on high points and edges with some minor erosion and slight beginning pinprick pitting. All matching serial numbers.
