1906 McClure Magazine Montana The Last Stand
For your consideration is this 1906 McClure's Magazine with N.C. Wyeth's artwork titled, "Montana The Last Stand" on the front cover. The McClure Magazine was created in 1893 to compete with other quality American magazines like Harper's and Scribner's. The McClure Magazine achieved distinction and national fame at the turn of the century by launching its "muckraking" era in American journalism. This threw the magazine into a new world, publishing a series of deeply researched articles of corruption and abuse in American Government and big business such as Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company and Andrew Carnegie's U.S. Steel operation. Over a five-year period, the magazine's investigative reporting sparked significant reform campaigns and led to a wave of new laws, and its readership topped half a million. The magazine features advertisements, articles and photos throughout. The magazine shows good condition overall with some wear from its vintage age and use. The edges of the pages are worn and show slight tears but the interior pages are in good, readable condition. The magazine measures 10" L x 7" W.
