18C A-23 HANDMADE MODEL SHIPExcellent handmade model ship of the Benjamin F. Packard of Bath, Maine originally built in 1883. Original receipt dated Dec. 19, 1939 documents blue prints were obtained from Rudder Publishing Co., 9 Murray St., NewYork, New York. The ship was made on a 1/8” to one foot scale. The original ship approximately 244. 2 FT, 43.3 beam, 26.7 PT, depth of hold, 2026 tons. The ship is approximately 38 and 2 FT to the top of themast. The case measures 42” x 27” x 12” approximately. A letter and well documented receipt are signed by Lee Aspland of King Co. Washington the builder. An old B&W photo shows ship on display at Behrendt-Levyinsurance Agency Seaboard branch Marine Insurance. The builder also states the model took 9 months to complete. The condition is excellent and ship and rigging are all hand built pre-WWII and the display case is theoriginal. A detailed and handmade model. This quality is estimated at $10,000-$20,000 replacement on today’s market with few makers willing to commission a project from scratch with no manufactured parts.
