Sharps Model 1874 Sporting rifle, .40 caliber, 30” octagon barrel, double set triggers (working at time of description), wood stocks, S/N 156731 (matching barrel S/N). This gun is in overall good conditionwith a dark patina to metal surfaces, good bore, crisp action, good markings and good wood showing normal wear from carry and storage with scattered old mars and aging. Accompanied by a factory letter confirmingfeatures and indication a listed weight of 12 pounds even. The letter further notes the invoicing from the factory to be on March 22, 1876 to Claus Lohder, Jenny Lind, Calaveras County, California. It is further stated inthe letter that Lohder was a private customer ordering directly from the factory and was given a substantial discount ($42 less 20%) owing to the fact that he ordered 7 Sporting Rifles at that time along with a considerable amount of accessories, shells and primers (total cost of order: $311.20). Importantly, also included are 5 rarely available original handwritten correspondences to the Sharps Co. from Lohder covering his request
