1866 Winchester carbine, .44 caliber centerfire, old western-style scroll engraved, replaced wood stocks, iron buttplate, serial #167498. The engraving is old and hand-cut and not of modern times, but slightly lower quality than New York engravers and probably accomplished in the Southwest or Mexico during the period. The barrel and magazine tube show a grey patina with very light address, some scatterederosion and pinprick pitting. The frame is good with a nice patina and just slightly rounded corners. The stocks are well made replacements that are old, but slightly too thick and hand hewn. The rifle shows smallrepairs, a couple of screws replaced. Correct carbine rear sight marked 1873. The extractor is broken and missing. The action is hesitating slightly. The bore is rough. An attractive ’66 carbine. Est: $5,000 -10000
