1860 pattern Naval Cutlass with etched blade, showing Aloha" at center surrounded by scrolls and Hartley and Graham New York NY address on reverse of the ricasso. The blade is in good condition with some scattered erosion and pinprick" pitting. The etching is original to the 19th century in our opinion. The guard shows some dings and mars at the edges. The leather over wood grip is good. The hilt shows a deep patina. An original to the period leather riveted scabbard is included, shows some tearing and small losses. We have never examined another 1860 Naval cutlass with this marking and can only theorize the state of Hawaii may have ordered surplus US military equipment that was refurbished to their specifications by Hartley and Graham of New York who were among the biggest military outfitters in the world in the 1890’s and early turn of the century.
