1860 US Cavalry saber withy scabbard. Blade later etched and plated with fancy “US”, scrolls, stands of arms, American Eagle and inscription “Robert B. Metcalfe, compliments of troop B”. The reverse of the ricasso ismarked “M. B. Lilley & Co, Col. O.” The right side of the ricasso shows the original “US” marking and “ADK” inspection. Blade shows 90% nickel finish, the hilt shows a deep patina, good wire wrap, good scabbard, blade isexcellent. M. C. Lilley obviously decorated this sword for the soldier who carried it in the Civil War in probably approx. 1890 to turn of century. Robert Metcalfe enlisted 6/21/1864 at Owensboro, KY as a FirstSergeant. He later mustered into Company B, 108th Infantry which were “colored troops”. Census polls list his residence as Muhlenburg, KY, and Feyette, KY in 1900. He was born July 1828. It would be interestingto further research this cavalry sword which was obviously a very important artifact to its owner who probably carried it in veterans parades and ceremonies. Est: $900 - $1,800
