1860 Model U.S. Cavalry saber showing U.S. inspections and dated 1865 in very good condition with original scabbard. The ricasso is scratched engraved with the number “2280 Y 13”. This sword was carried at San Juan Hill in theSpanish-American war and was given to William A. Gary in 1940 by 1st Sgt. William Foster U.S. Army retired. Sgt. Foster was wounded at the battle of San Juan Hill and this was his sword gifted to noted collector and author Bill Gary. It was oneof his most prized possessions and Mr. Bill Gary treasured it as a personal memento gifted between two soldiers. The Inventory card from The Gary collection is included. The sword remains in very good condition and shows an old black paint on the scabbard and old yellow paint on the hilt. Additionally the pommel is stamped “75” and the guard ”63” in large handheld dye style stamps. The wire wrapped grip is good. The blade is very good plus with good markings and some slight scratches with normal use. William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $400-$800
