1860 Army Colt, serial #106835 in relic as-found condition with frame display. The frame display shows photography of William Ottmer of the 58th New York volunteers, born April 1844 in Germany. The photograph shows Ottmer at a very young age when he enlisted. Also framed in the display is Ottmer's discharge from 58th regiment New York volunteers where he enlisted at 17 years old. His discharge given at Lookout Valley, TN, 31 December 1863. Also framed with 1930 50th anniversary of Gettysburg identifying William Ottmer, signed by U.F. Saddler Jr, Adj. General of NJ. With eagle buckle ant title which reads This fully-loaded 1860 Col Army Revolver S/N106835 was hidden in the trunk of an oak tree by Private William Ottner" minutes before his capture by confederate troops during the battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 1863. In 1913, while reminiscing with fellow veterans attending the 50th anniversary of the battle, William Ottmer, then an old man, proceeded to locate the tree beneath which he concealed the gun. He found the gun in its present condition, still fully loaded, as he had left it 50 years earlier. Presented by Mr. Michael Ottmer, grandson of William Ottmer, San Diego, California. This"
