1859 dated Enfield rifled musket marked “Imported by Robinson, Adam & Co., Richmond” showing the VR and crown on the lock with broad head proofs on the left side of the breech and stamped “M 38 Potts Henry Clive”. The lock shows broad headproofs and the breech shows British proofs. The arm measures 54” overall with a 39” barrel that has been board out to smoothbore. The metal surfaces show an old Arsenal type dipped blue military style finish which was applied long agoprobably during the period of use. There is some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting along with some minor rust. The metal surfaces are generally good. The stock shows an old coating of varnish or shellac of which 75%remains with many small scratches and some losses down ramrod channel. The action works well and the nipple protector with chain is included along with a period ram rod. The arm also retains original sling swivels. There are 7 small hashmarks on the inside of the trigger guard like marks found on Confederate arms. Est.: $1500-$3000
