This is an original 1855 Utah Territory railroad survey map. This map was created as a result of the explorations and surveys conducted by the War Department from 1853-1855. The purpose of the surveys was to determine the best route for the railroads to establish between the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean. This map is marked "No. 4 From the Coo-Che-To-Pa Pass to the Wahsatch Mountains". The map shows much of what is now Colorado and Utah. The map is in good overall condition showing wear along the folds and discoloration consistent with its age. The map measures 25.75" x 33.25".
