17th to 18th century Scottish basket-hilt broadsword with 32” unmarked blade, 39-1/2” overall, blade measures approx. 1-1/4” across widest part of ricasso. The hilt shows copper flux in its construction indicatingearly period of manufacture. The hilt is nicely made and pierced with hearts and typical Scottish motifs. The metal surfaces show moderate to slightly heavy pitting, there are no identification marks and thereare two blood-grooves running down the center of the blade, two large blood grooves at the ricasso. The tip has been set back slightly. The grip is an excellent old rewrap, possibly during period of use and is showingsome age. A very old and authentic Scottish basket-hilt that manufactured between 1670 and 1750 in our opinion. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
