16th to 17th century Northern European pole ax head with well-marked blade and on an old shortened shaft. The edge measures 10 ¼” and blade measures 6” from back to front edge. The condition is good showing sharpening andlosses at the tip. Normal pitting and aging. The blade shows deeply stamped makers mark one of which is very legible with a large I S and is hot stamped. The shaft is 19th-century or earlier and has beenshortened for hand use to approximately 13 ¼”. These axes where used as weapons and tools. Good blades and metal objects were never thrown away and many old surplus items were traded in the new world. Est.: $350-$700
