This is a rare Georgian Officer's Tarleton helmet circa 1780. The body and peak are of stout black jacketed leather. The peak is edged with a copper band. A yellow pleated turban encircles the helmet bound by three sets of silvered chains on each side. The right side has a large silvered insignia of the Prince of Wales' plumes over the banner marked "ICH DIEN". A large brown bearskin crest and a yellow feathered plume top the helmet. Across the top of the peak is marked "X LIGHT DRAGOONS". Cotton fabric lining/brow band.

Condition: Good, the helmet shows some wear appropriate for a helmet of this age. The yellow cloth turban is original and has darkened with age and shows scattered stains. There are some minor cracks and flaking on the helmet visor. The interior stitching is tight. The bear skin and the feather plume are replacements. The lining is very good with some stains.
