Vintage Beefeater Screen Worn Full Costume
Deluxe, very beautiful, hand-embroidered and obviously prominently screen worn costume of a beefeater, or Yeomen Warders of Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, used in a 1930s Hollywood production. From the Warner Bros. wardrobe department. Ensemble consists of a tunic, pants, belt and knife. Includes a United Costumers label and, above this, another label with "P. Davidson Boy/Girl 1937" handwritten on it. The period for which the costume was created probably dates to the early twentieth century, with the motto of the British Monarchy, "Dieu et mon droit", featured beneath hand-embroidered floral motif featuring a red rose. The red rose is the symbol for the House of Lancaster, which ruled England in the 15th century, and was adopted as the country's national flower afterward. Consists of a tunic, pants and belt, which includes a dagger with an engraved "Carlos V" and "Karolos Divus". The initials "C R" on the front of the tunic most likely stand for Charles Rex, Charles I and Charles II having ruled England in the 17th century.
