Springfield model 1861 .58 caliber rifled musket, standard three-band configuration with all features as issued on this model. Dated 1862 on lock. The metal surfaces show light to moderate scattered erosion andsurface pitting with good clear US Springfield and 75% visible eagle. The top of breech and left side of breech show proofs and 1862 date. The wood shows faint traces of cartouches and some dings, mars, scratches,small losses, dents, and other defects consistent with military use and storage. Stock would be rated as fair to good. The triggerguard shows some slight damage and bending on the edge, original loading rod isretained with original sights. The action is tight, bore fair to good with rifling still visible but has seen firing and use. A linen and leather sling is included which is probably a reenactor’s. Good to very goodoverall.
