You have the option to bid on one of the most primitive forms of automaton, a cardboard and paper, sand automaton. The toy has no maker or name associated with it, however, the first sand automatons originate from as early as 1820, with French origin. This automaton features a circus trapeze artist, performing in front of his peers, and a full crowd. The interior of the box has a sand hopper, and a cupped wheel. Rotate the box clockwise in accordance to the sticker on top, and the sand acts upon the wheel like a water wheel, and brings the scene at the front of the box to action. The exterior of the box has an ornate silver colored frame around the scene, and a orange and black floral pattern around the rest of the box. This automaton is believed to originate from the 1850's to the early 1900's, and shows very good working condition. The box measures 7" tall, 4 5/8" wide, and 2 1/8" deep.
