Exceptional World War II Nazi Mauser K98 Turret Sniper Rifle with Sling and Matching Scope

Estimate: $25000 - 40000
This is an exceptional example of a WWII German turret sniper rifle manufactured by Mauser fitted with a "cad" marked sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and they were in service from their introduction in 1939 to the end of the war. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, the right side of the receiver is marked with a single "eagle" proof and the left side has a "eagle 135" and Nazi firing proofs flanking the serial number, with the receiver side wall marked "Mod. 98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof followed by the serial number and around the breech end is marked "440891". All visible numbers are matching. The rear of the rear sight base is marked "K/eagle/63/S42". The rifle has a milled trigger guard, floor plate and barrel bands. The rifle is fitted with an all blue sniper scope with matching numbered front ring and marked "cad" on the top rear, with leather lens caps. The rifle is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters, steel cleaning rod with slotted head and mounted with a laminated stock and handguard with cupped buttplate. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a faint eagle proofmark and there is a eagle proof on the underside. The rifle is equipped with a brown leather sling, muzzle cover, leather lens covers and winter trigger guard marked "MOD 98" on the right side.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 4584n
Condition: Excellent plus. The barrel retains 97% original finish with some thinning on the rear portion between the barrel bands. The receiver retains 98% original finish with some thinning and finish loss on the right side ring directly below the scope base. The stock is excellent with a small shallow gouge on the upper left side of the buttstock, the usual small pressure dents on the left side caused by the sling buckle and overall light handling marks. The scope is very good with some wear and flaking on the blue finish on the ends, and clear optics. The strap connecting the lens covers has separated from one of the covers, otherwise good. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
