Excellent World War II German Mauser (byf) Code 1944 Dated K98 Bolt Action Rifle with ZF41 Scope

Estimate: $4000 - 6000
This is a nice example of a late WWII 1944 date K98 rifle that has been fitted with the short ZF41 telescopic sight. These sights were considered as a shooters' aid to help improve hit probability for the trained marksmans. As noted these were fitted to select K98 rifles with the scope being mounted on the side of the rear sight, which required an extended/long eye-relief rifle scope. These scopes were manufactured by numerous manufacturers during WWII with this one being marked "3947/ddv/ZF 41/+" for the (Oculus, Spezialfabrik Ophthalmologisher Instrumente, company Berlin) with the mount being manufactured by the Berlin-Lubecker company and marked on the rear leg with "6044/Eagle 214/ duv". The rings are stamped on the edges with number "155" and electro penciled "44" on tops. The scope is complete with the rear sun/rain shield (only). The rifle as noted is a standard K98 produced by the Mauser factory and is correctly stamped on top of the receiver ring with "Eagle/135/byf/44" the wartime code for the factory and the year of manufacture. It has the standard firing proofs with the block "Mod. 98" markings on the side wall. The top rear section of the barrel is stamped with a single Eagle firing proof, next to "44 D 9" for the year and barrel steel code from the factory. It is fitted with a set of late war stamped sheet metal barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate are all unnumbered with the latter two bearing the "Eagle/135" proofs from the Mauser factory. The rear sight and rear sight base are not numbered or proofed, It is fitted with a late war laminated stock and hand guard with cupped buttplate and the stock does not have any stock proofs or acceptance marks. This rifle is complete with the original front sight cover and a smooth brown leather sling.
