Excellent Pre-War 1933 DRP Marked Mauser Banner 98K Rifle with Sling Bayonet and Scabbard
This is a nice example of a DRP marked pre-war, pre-Nazi Mauser Banner rifle. These rifles were actually transition rifles between the very first commercial Mauser Banners and the actual Banners, purchased by the German Army for initial use. The top of the front receiver ring is marked with the Mauser Banner logo over 1933, for the year of manufacture, the left side is marked with the commercial "Crown over B, U, G and N" proofs along with the early serial number. The receiver side wall has the commercial markings of "MAUSER -WERKE A.G.OBERNDORF A.N." and the left rear of the barrel is marked with the serial number. The stock and handguard are the correct pre-war walnut version with the finger grooves on the sides with the flat metal buttplate. Marked "DRP" on left side of buttstock (Deutches Reich Post), also marked "DRP Bln" for Berlin in the sling slot. It has all the correct early milled components, barrel bands, trigger guard, and floor plate. It is complete with the original cleaning rod, brown leather sling and an early unmarked commercial style 98K bayonet with bright blade, smooth wooden handle and metal scabbard. The bayonet is completely void of any markings.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 55281
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 90% original blue finish with scattered minor thinning and areas of smooth brown on the floor plate, trigger guard and front barrel band. The stock is also excellent, with the exception of a couple moderate scratches on the left side caused by the sling buckle, there are a few overall scattered minor dents and dings. The sling is good. The bayonet is very good and the scabbard is good plus with some light spotting and some areas of gray where the finish has been removed. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
