Desirable Nazi 42 Code 1940 Date Mauser 98K Luftwaffe Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet
This is an example of an early standard production rifle as manufactured by the Mauser factory. The top of the receiver is marked "42 / 1940", the right side is marked with three "eagle/655" proofs and the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The left side receiver wall is marked "Mod.98", the left rear of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof followed by the serial number and a small "eagle/655" proof, and the right side behind the handguard is marked with three "eagle/WaA655" proofs. Most parts are marked with the matching serial number. Blade front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, and mounted with a one piece pistol grip stock with matching handguard. The stock is marked with Mauser 655 Waffenamt proofs on the right rear and Luftwaffe "L" proofs, with the matching serial number on the bottom. The cleaning rod is absent. Complete with a "41asw" code bayonet with serrated Bakelite handle and matching metal scabbard and leather frog.

Condition: Very good. The rifle retains 40% original thin blue finish with the forward portion of the barrel having a smooth mottled gray patina. The refinished barrel bands have a smooth artificial brown patina and the floor plate and trigger guard are a mix of the same smooth brown mixed with thin original finish. The stock is very good with overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The bayonet is very good with some wear on the blade (90% finish remaining) and a few minor dings on the handle. The scabbard and frog are both good.
