Available for your bidding consideration is this tooled leather side saddle. The invention of the earliest "functional" side saddle is credited to Anne of Bohemia between 1366-1394. The functional purpose of the side saddle was to keep the modesty of the women utilizing them - they fell out of popularity between 1900-1950 when it became acceptable for women to ride astride, and wear trouser while doing so. As silly as the reasons for use may be, women still managed to accomplish awesome feats using a side saddle. This particular saddle is of tan leather and has a red and black upholstery stitched into the seat. The red and black upholstery is also used on the right fender forming a circular field featuring a red white and black leaether star with "76" in the center. The rest of the leather is tooled with a flower motif. The saddle has a wool padded undercarriage, a single ladies stirrup, and a striped cotton billet strap. The inside of the saddle is marked, "H K Finlayson" and "YX". "YX" is also stamped into the back, behind the seat. The seat measurement for the saddle comes to 11"w x 15.5"l
