Offered for sale is this rare style of war tomahawk dating to circa 1860-1870 and collected from the Comanche Native American Indian tribe in Northern Texas. The piece features a hand forged axe style, similar to a Missouri War Axe Head, measuring 6 ½ inches in length. The old wooden haft is quite weathered and shows much signs of use. The piece is adorned with circular brass tack designs and has an old Buffalo hide fringe wrap below the gripping section. There are old dirty hand-sweat stains on the gripping area of the haft, perhaps from palm sweat. Metal tomahawk attributed to the Apache or Comanche Indians are considered quite rare and scarce. The Buffalo Indian tanned hide wrap shows long fringe. This is truly an authentic and scarce weapon of the Southern Plains.
