Colt government model .45 ACP caliber semi-automatic pistol, exhibition engraved in gold inlaid in high relief with presentation grade deluxe display case signed “L.S.M. McKenzie New Orleans Arms”. Serial #334651-C. Linton McKenzie was one of the finest firearms engravers of the late 20th century. He worked for Purdy and other London firms before immigrating to America where he first worked for the prestigious New Orleans Arms company which created firearms masterpieces almost 40 years ago. After a short time with that company, McKenzie ventured out on his own and engraved some of the finest arms imaginable. This Colt is one of his most well recognized works and it is completely engraved in fine raised in relief scrolls with large gold panels of satyrs and nude women in various erotic positions. The grip safety is inlaid with a high relief portrait of Bacchus, the end-strap shows eve grasping the “forbidden fruit” (interpretive). The triggerguard shows bats in flight against the crescent moon. The front of the frame shows a gold inlaid torch with ribbons, the type carried be Mercury.
