19th Century British 1822 Pattern Officer's Sword
British 1822 Pattern Officer's Sword with the "VR" cipher of Queen Victoria on the gilded triple-bar hilt with folding guard. The grip is covered with rayskin and wrapped with fine gold wire. The sword has a 32 1/2-inch, spear point, single fuller blade with round back. Both sides of the blade are acid etched with the royal cipher flanked by scroll work panels. The obverse ricasso has the typical British indented gold proof mark and the reverse is etched with the maker's name (HAMBURGER) and London address. The grip is covered with rayskin and wrapped with fine gold wire. The sword is complete with a gold-plated scabbard with two suspension rings. The sword probably dates from the 1890s.
